The Dutch Leiden University is open for applications for scholarships of up to 100% for master’s courses offered in English. The Excellence Scholarships (LExS) program includes postgraduate degrees in the faculties of Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social Sciences, Science, African Studies and Asian Studies. Scholarships can cover up to 100% of the cost of master’s courses, which cost from around €20,900 to €31,100. In addition to full grants, Excellence Scholarships also offer awards of €10,000 and €15,000. In this link ( available here), it is possible to check the costs of the programs.
Leiden University, established in 1575 by William I, Prince of Orange, holds the title of the oldest university in the Netherlands. In total, the institution has 7 faculties, 34 thousand students and 16 Nobel winners among its alumni.
How to Apply for Scholarships
To compete, you must register online for the desired master’s program ( available here) and participate in the traditional selection process. After submitting your application for admission, return to the Apply page and click on Scholarships . If you are eligible to apply for LExS, you need to submit a motivation letter specific to the program. This document must be sent in PDF and contain a maximum of 500 words.
Selection criteria include academic merit. According to the program page, students must present “excellent academic results in their previous study programs, which must be relevant to the master’s program to which they are applying.”
For the traditional master’s selection process, it is necessary to send the documents:
- Copy of passport or identification document
- Curriculum
- Proof of English proficiency
- Copies and transcripts of graduation diplomas
- Letter of interest
- Letters of recommendation
