The Dutch University Leiden is accepting applications for grants of up to 100% in master’s courses offered in English. The Excellence Scholarships program includes postgraduate studies in the areas: Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social Sciences, Sciences, African Studies and Asian Studies.

Scholarships can cover up to 100% of the cost of master’s courses, which can cost €28,300, about R$150,000. In addition to full grants, Excellence Scholarships offers scholarships of €10,000 and €15,000. In this link ( available here ), it is possible to check the full costs of the programs.

Leiden University is the oldest in the Netherlands, founded in 1575 by William I, Prince of Orange. In all, the institution has 7 faculties, 34,000 students and 16 Nobel Prize winners among alumni.

How to Apply for Scholarships

In order to apply, it is necessary to register online for the desired master’s program ( available here) and participate in the traditional selection process. However, during registration, in the scholarship section, simply select your interest in Excellence Scholarships (LExS) and send the letter of motivation specific to the program. This document must be sent in PDF and contain a maximum of 500 words.

Selection criteria include academic merit. According to the program page, students must present “excellent academic results in their previous study programs, which must be relevant to the master’s program to which they are applying.”

For the traditional selective process of the Master, it is necessary to send the following documents:

  • Copy of passport or identification document
  • Curriculum
  • Proof of proficiency in English (TOEFL IBT or Cambridge English level C1 or C2 – according to the requirement of the desired program)
  • Copies and transcripts of graduation diplomas
  • Motivation letter (between 700 and 1,500 words and written in English)
  • Letters of recommendation
