The University of Sydney is accepting applications for the University of Sydney International Strategic Scholarship program. It is one of the programs ( see here for others) through which the institution offers financial support to those who wish to develop research in Australia. Applications are open until September 15th.
As a benefit, the program covers the value of study annuities and researcher maintenance in the country for a period of up to two years for master’s programs focused on research (equivalent to stricto sensu programs in Brazil). For doctoral programs, the maximum duration is three and a half years. The value of the scholarship is estimated at 37 thousand Australian dollars per year.
How to apply to do research in Australia
There is no separate application for these scholarships. Candidates must submit their data and documents required by their course of choice, to be evaluated against a series of criteria. Among them are undergraduate academic performance and previous research experience.
Even if there is no separate application, it is necessary to pay attention to the application process for research programs in Australia. First, the student must establish his research topic and find a suitable advisor at the University of Sydney. Afterwards, contact should be made using the Research Supervisor Connect platform.
This first approach, however, must follow some criteria. It is interesting, for example, to explain to the faculty member what your academic interests are and relate your past experiences. In summary, the advisor must understand how his line of research “fits” into the candidate’s plans and into his master’s or PHD .
For the first contact, the suggestions listed by the university include sending the curriculum and academic history, as well as a project outline(with up to 2000 words). It is also necessary to highlight in the application that you would like to be considered for a scholarship. With the right proposal, you can apply for the research program in Australia.
Application Requirements
The established criteria vary according to the Australian university program. In general, however, there is a list of required documents:
- Research project already aligned with the advisor
- Resume in English
- English proficiency test(See here for the minimum requirements)
- Academic transcripts in the original and translated language
- Proof of contact with the advisor (for example, copy of exchanged emails)
- Two letters of recommendation, following the model of the university
From there, each student can submit their application for their course of interest, until the deadline. For more details, just go to the University of Sydney website.
